La Chataigne Wines
Wines & Guest Cottages
In 1972, Lennart Parkfelt moved with his family from Sweden to Franschhoek, his favourite place in South Africa. Here he bought a wine farm, and as our family history is intertwined with the chestnut tree, he named the farm ‘La Chataigne’ (The Chestnut). This is why some of our wine blends and our guest cottages are named ‘Chestnut’ in different languages.
Today the farm and guest cottages are run by Lennart’s son, Richard, and his wife, Julie. La Chataigne is a relatively small farm, producing around 150 tons of grapes. Out of these grapes, we hand select only a small portion to produce about 15,000 bottles under our own label.
