Twee Jonge Gezellen Estate has been in the family since 1710, with each generation passing on their knowledge and winemaking skills, thus creating a long history and tradition.
Cellar master, Nicky Krone had a passion for champagne which led him to produce his first bottle of bottle fermented sparkling wine in 1987. After winning the Diners Club Winemaker of The Year Award for MCC in 1995, he was approached by the prestigious French Champagne House, Mumm to produce MCC under their label in South Africa. Nicky’s wife, Mary Krone is in charge of business and has been the pivotal driving force in building the Krone brand. In 2001, Matthew Krone started working with his father, Nicky and three years later he took over the wine cellar responsibilities. There, under the guiding hand of both his father and grandfather, Matthew began focussing solely on the production of MCC bubbly. Luke, the youngest son does the PR and event management and is key operations manager who ensures that their products are delivered on time. The two sons have inherited their parent’s passion for producing premium quality MCC sparkling wines, as well as a sense of innovation – constantly striving to improve every part of the production process. Matthew and Luke are the 12th generation to take over the responsibility of managing the farm and ensuring the continuity of the family business.
This family run farm is committed to social responsibility and working with the community; Many of the farm workers and their families who help to produce their magical bubbly have been part of the family business for generations. As a result, the House of Krone range of Cap Classiques is a proud testimony to the legacy of Twee Jonge Gezellen – full of zest for life and brimming with the potential and creativity of more to come.
