Strandveld Vineyards
Africa’s southernmost winery
Our vineyards are the most southerly in Africa. The farm is situated 11km from the Atlantic ocean, between Elim and Cape Agulhas.
Strandveld wines are made from specially selected vines. But a few thousand bottles are made from only the finest grapes which uniquely express the terroir of the Strandveld.
First Sighting pays homage to the great vision that inspired the Portuguese explorers to discover a sea route to the spice-rich East.
In 1488 Bartholmeu Diaz had the first sighting of the southernmost tip of Africa. Today, the grapes for First Sighting wines are grown on Africa’s southernmost vineyards near Cape Agulhas.
First Sighting wines fully express the terroir of the Elim ward, where varying soil types and relentless winds off the Atlantic ensure slow ripening, modest yields and intense flavours.
