Het Vlock Casteel

A family concern, producing a vast variety of estate-grown produce since 2002

Het Vlock Casteel is a family concern, producing a vast variety of estate-grown produce since 2002. This is not where it all began, however: 2008 marked the 50th anniversary of Vlok family’s way of life at the foot of Kasteelberg. Patriarch Attie Vlock – father, grandfather, great-grandfather, innovative farmer and friend to many – left behind a lasting legacy, with seven of his nine children, and many of his grandchildren, involved in agriculture.

Second-generation farmer and winemaker Johan Vlok uses a biodynamic-equilibrium method of farming. His wife, food scientist Ansie, is an olive and preserve specialist. Their son Adriaan will soon continue the family’s proud tradition of personal attention to detail in the winemaking process.

At Café Merlot, which opened in 2008, visitors can enjoy heartwarming meals and a glass of Het Vlock Casteel wine, overlooking the beautiful Riebeek Valley. The café hosts smaller functions, while The Wedding Venue is a favourite spot for this life-affirming celebration.

The Het Vlock Casteel range includes wine (Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc); olives (pickled, smoked and dried, and as relishes, jams, chutneys and pastes) and olive oil; balsamic vinegar; dukka; honey; waterblommetjie, watermelon and fig preserves, pomegranate and other dessert toppings and jams; health rusks (made with olive oil); raisins; Kaapsejongens (grapes in brandy), boerejongens (raisins in brandy/gin) and boeremeisjes (apricots in witblits); chutneys; and chilli sauces.
