Arumdale
Elgin Cool Climate Wine
Located in the ideally suited, beautifully sloped, terroir of the cool- climate region of Elgin, Arumdale is one of the first estates to concentrate on red wine made from really late harvested, fully ripened fruit.
Mark Simpson, with Huguenot bloodlines tracing back to 1687 in the Loire Valley, is presently at the helm of Arumdale and The Robin Hood Legendary Wine Series. Inspired by a keen interest in the terroir, and giving reality to a life-dream, Mark planted the first commercial Elgin Shiraz vineyard as early as the year 2000. The Elgin vineyards selected for making his products include principally cool-climate red cultivars, namely Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. All the sourced white wines are made from Sauvignon Blanc.
Arumdale grapes were first vinified in the well famed Thelema Cellar in Stellenbosch, under the reputed Cellar-masters Gyles Webb and Rudi Schultz. Early acclaim was achieved by Arumdale Cabernet Sauvignon, and Arumdale Shiraz, and notable Sauvignon Blanc which now continues at the amply equipped and well run Villiersdorp cellar.
